Sitka Spruce Tips 4-H 2022 Summer Camps

4-H summer camps are open to youth ages 5 – 18 with active 2021-22 4-H memberships. You can enroll for 4-H at: http://4h.zsuite.org. Memberships are not active until the $26 annual membership is paid. Please also note that your registration spot will not be held if you are not an enrolled 4-H member. Scholarships are available upon request. Refunds minus $5 fee for processing can be given up until 2 weeks prior to the camp start date. Water Wonders

Dates: June 6 – 10 (M – F)

Time: 9:30 am -12:00 pm

Ages: 9-14

Cost: $30

Kick off the summer by brushing up and practicing your water safety skills. In this week-long camp, we’ll learn some basic water and kayak safety skills from AMSEA, and then put our skills to practice kayaking with SAIL.

Pride in Sitka 

Dates: June 13 – 16 (M – TH)

Time: 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm* (Note time change)

Ages: 7-12

Cost: $10

Join 4-H in this opportunity to learn about LGBTQIA2S+ identities and culture in Sitka. We will be exploring a variety of arts, music, and other expressive media made by identifying creators while learning about how the Tongass has guided and inspired their development. 

Friendly Foragers

Dates: June 20 – 24 (M – F)

Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm 

Ages: 7 – 13

Cost: $25

Explore the wild world of plants and the many ways we as humans use and interact with them. 4-H friendly foragers will harvest wild plant food, make natural plant dyes and natural products, learn some plant medicine and end with a “plants for self-care and wellness” day. 

Clean & Conserve

Dates: June 27 – July 1 (M – F)

Time: 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

Ages: All Ages

Cost: $10

Show care for our home during this restoration ecology & conservation biology camp! We’ll do a beach cleanup, tidy the recycling center, remove invasive species in the Tongass, and focus on strategies for conserving the place we call home.

 Skert & Dert! 

Dates: July 11 – 14 (M – TH)

Time: 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm* (Note time change)

Ages: 9 & up

Cost: $15

Explore and ride the trails with 4-H! During Skert & Dirt, we will be learning how to evaluate terrain, build tracks, improve technical skills, and bike! Bikes will not be provided but we can support seeking bike accommodations if given prior notice. Some experience riding the cross-trail is recommended to participate. Pack a lunch as we’ll be stopping to eat along the way! 

 

Baking Bliss

Dates: July 18 – 21 (M – TH)

Time: 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Ages: All ages

Cost: $30

Get your baking game on during this Great British Baking Show-inspired four day camp. Each day we’ll tackle a different recipe using wild edibles, learn baking techniques, and enjoy yummy foods! 


It’s the Climb

Dates: July 25 – 28 (M – TH)

Time: 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

Ages: 8 & up

Cost: $10

Build up to taking on challenging Sitka hikes in this mountain hiking camp. We’ll build endurance on shorter hikes such as Heart Lake/Thimbleberry and Beaver Lake before heading up Picnic Rock for a picnic (weather permitting). Learn hiking safety and trail games along the way.

Circus By the Sea

Dates: Aug 8 – 11 (M – TH)

Time: 9:30 am – noon

Ages: 8 & up

Cost: $20

Experience a wide variety of circus type skills including juggling, tightrope (slackline) and clowning in a friendly and fun environment. Open to all, any skill levels are welcome! 

Picking & Pies 

Date: Aug. 16 – 19 (T – F)

Time: 10:30 am – noon 

Ages: 5 – 8

Cost: $15

 Sitka 4-H will host the scrumptious Picking & Pies camp this late summer to explore the Sitka bounties. We will learn where to forage, how to pick sustainably, and their significance to locals. A storytelling event and pie making workshop are included! Sessions will take place in person and will include recipes and instruction for safe socially distanced berry picking.

 End of Summer Adventure Days

Date: Aug 22 & 23 (M & T)

Time: 10 am – 4 pm 

Ages: 5 – 9 // 10 & up

Cost: $20

Take a day-long adventure with 4-H at the end of summer. Location / details will be somewhat dictated by weather but be prepared for a day of exploring, fun, games and of course, adventure with your 4-H friends.
